RESEARCHING THE FUTURE
The Tara Ocean Foundation is finding new ways to protect and preserve the future of the ocean, by researching the effects of global warming, acidification, and chemical and plastic pollution. We’re proud to partner with them on their invaluable work.

TARA: THE SCHOONER WITH PURPOSE
Tara is the 118ft (36m) schooner that’s home to an open science laboratory. Its scientists collect data that helps them predict, anticipate and most importantly, better manage, tomorrow’s climate risks.
Since first setting sail in 1989, the floating lab has completed 12 expeditions, covered over 570,000km, and stopped in 60 countries.

SAILING FOR CHANGE
The Tara team puts high-level scientific expertise to good work: raising awareness, educating young people, mobilizing policy-makers at the highest level, and enabling emerging and developing countries to access the latest knowledge about the ocean.

SCIENCE ON THE HIGH SEAS
Tara’s research expeditions look at climate, marine biodiversity, and plastic pollution. Mission Microbiome, for example, studied the microbiome, the most fundamental tissue of the ocean. Even though we can’t see it, its role is huge: the microbiome produces half the oxygen we breathe and captures 30% of the CO2 we emit.
For Mission Europa, the foundation’s latest expedition along the coastline of Europe, the team looks at the impact of synthetics (like pesticides, antibiotics and microplastics) on soils and sediments, and the effect they have on marine ecosystems.
EXPEDITION READY
The foundation’s work takes in everything from icy Antarctic wilds to warm Caribbean calm. The crew needs to be ready for everything. Choosing North Sails Performance clothing means the weather doesn’t get in the way of their research, with kit chosen for its exceptional waterproofing, breathability, comfort, and freedom of movement.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Without support from organizations like us and ocean-lovers like you from all over the world, the Tara Ocean Foundation can’t continue its work to protect and preserve the ocean. Help us help them—and make a difference to the future of the planet. See how you can show your support and find out more about the Tara Ocean Foundation and its revolutionary work.
